How to Set Up a XAUUSD EA on MT5

A XAUUSD expert advisor is an automated program that opens and manages gold trades inside MetaTrader 5. Gold moves fast, so the setup around the EA — broker, spread, execution and risk — matters as much as the strategy itself. Here is the setup we use for every XAUXPERT client.

1. Choose a low-spread MT5 broker

Gold scalping lives and dies on spread and slippage. An ECN or Raw account with an average XAU/USD spread of roughly 10–20 points will noticeably outperform a standard account at 35+ points, even with identical entries. Any regulated MT5 broker works.

2. Keep MT5 online with a VPS

An EA only trades while the terminal is running. A Forex VPS located close to your broker's server keeps MetaTrader 5 online 24/5 and cuts execution latency, so the bot doesn't miss the London and New York gold sessions while your PC sleeps.

3. Install the expert advisor

In MT5 open File → Open Data Folder → MQL5 → Experts, drop in the .ex5 file and restart the terminal. The EA then appears in the Navigator panel. Drag it onto an XAUUSD chart on the timeframe the strategy specifies (M5 for XAUXPERT).

4. Enable algorithmic trading

Turn on the Algo Trading button in the toolbar and tick “Allow automated trading” in the EA dialog. A smiley face on the chart means the bot is live. Confirm the symbol name matches your broker's (XAUUSD, XAUUSD.m, GOLD, etc.).

5. Size risk to your account

The most common reason a working gold EA blows an account is oversizing. Run a minimum balance of $1000, keep risk per trade fixed, and never raise lot size after a losing streak. Automated trading carries risk — only trade capital you can afford to lose.
